Pacchi Kaaram

This is one of the chutney prepared mostly in olden days, by farmers who work throughout the day. It’s tasty and easy to be made. I tried a lot to make it using pestle, but couldn’t find one at the right time. So I was forced to prepare it using my mixer.



1 Cup Grated Coconut (fresh)
½ Cup Chopped Onions
1 Cup Chopped Tomatoes
5-6 Green Chillies
Cooking oil
For seasoning:
½ tsp Mustard seeds/Avalu
1 tsp Cumin seeds/Jeera
1 tsp Bengal gram/Pachisenagapappu
1 tsp Urad dal/Minapappu
8-10 Curry leaves/Karvepaku


  • Mix Coconut, onions, tomato, green chillies and grind adding salt to it. It tastes best if prepared using pestle (rubbu rolu).
  • Now heat 2-3 tsp oil in a)pan for seasoning. Add seasoning items one after the other, allow them to cook for 2 mins.
  • Add it to the chutney prepared. It’s a good combination for rice/jowar roti/chapathi.

Note : This can also be prepared without using coconut. That will give you a different taste. Tamarind pulp can also be added if required in place of tomatoes.
